Celebrating Our Unsung Heroes: National Library Workers Day at the Jersey City Free Public Library

Libraries are the vibrant hearts of our communities, the place we go to connect with knowledge, resources and others. That’s largely thanks to the talented and passionate people who work there. On April 9, 2024, as the world celebrates National Library Workers Day, we invite all residents to join us in recognizing the invaluable contributions of staff at the Jersey City Free Public Library.

Every day, the dedicated team at the Jersey City Free Public Library opens the library doors, welcoming everyone and working tirelessly to enrich our lives. From fostering a love for reading in our youngest visitors to equipping students with resources for academic success and providing crucial support to job seekers and entrepreneurs, our library professionals are the unsung heroes who make it all possible.

National Library Workers Day is more than just a day to acknowledge their expertise and dedication; it’s a celebration of the profound impact they have on transforming lives and strengthening Jersey City through education and lifelong learning. As we pay tribute to our staff, we also want to spotlight the limitless opportunities for engagement, enrichment, and personal growth that the Jersey City Free Public Library offers to our city.

With over 100 staff members spread across 11 branches, the Jersey City Free Public Library stands as a beacon of knowledge and support for our community. As we commemorate this special day, we encourage patrons to engage with our “Submit a Star” initiative. Share your stories and testimonials about your favorite library employee at http://bit.ly/librarystar, and let us illuminate the extraordinary efforts of our staff in the “Galaxy of Stars” on the NLWD website at ala-apa.org/nlwd.

Join us in celebrating National Library Workers Day by sharing your appreciation on social media using #NLWD24. Together, let’s shine a light on the incredible individuals who make the Jersey City Free Public Library a place of inspiration and possibility for all.

Established in 2003, National Library Workers Day (NLWD) celebrates the contributions of all library workers, including librarians, support staff and others who make library service possible every day. NLWD is held annually during National Library Week (April 7–13, 2024) and is sponsored by the American Library Association-Allied Professional Association (ALA-APA).
