Jersey City residents can apply online for a virtual library card which allows access to all of Jersey City Free Public Library digital resources including eBooks, streaming media, databases and access to our print collection

If you already have a Jersey City Library Card, please do not register for another card. Instead call or visit any Jersey City Free Public Library branch to check the status of your account. To receive your library card number or replace your card, visit any location in person and provide identification or email renewal@jclibrary.org.

*To choose a card design, you must apply in person at the branch, rather than online. If you apply online, you will automatically receive the standard digital yellow card.

How to access my library account

To access your library card account, please input your User ID (barcode found at the back of the card with no spaces and your PIN (usually written on a sticker on the front of your card)

Library Card Renewal

Library Cards have no expiration dates. Please make sure to notify staff of any updates related to patron contact information. Before accounts are renewed, all outstanding bills need to be paid. Library cardholders will be required to show forms of address, one being a Photo ID, and another current form of address. Please email ID/address proof to renewal@jclibrary.org.

Requirements

Residents of Jersey City- Anyone age 14 or above must show the following documents:

Photo ID (Proof of Identification): Driver’s license, school or work ID, current passport

Non-Jersey City Residents:

If you do not live, work, or go to school in Jersey City or live in Hudson County, you can sign up for a subscription account. The cost per year is $50 and gives you access to all of our online resources. Please email webmaster@jclibrary.org your request. We require the following information: Name, Address, Phone, E-Mail, and Birth Date.

Non-residents students:

Non-resident students enrolled in Jersey City schools or colleges are eligible to apply for a free JCFPL Library Card. Please show a current student photo ID and current tuition bill or class schedule, as well as evidence of your residential address such as the proofs listed above.

Proof that you live in Jersey City:

Proof that you live in Jersey City, sent to you at your current Jersey City address through the mail within the past 60 days (such as a current gas/electric or water bill, medical statement, bank or credit card statement, postmarked handwritten envelope, computer-generated bill or other legitimate mail, recent online bank statement or bill which shows your current address, displayed on your smartphone). NOTE: A post office box can be used as your mailing address, but you must ALSO provide us with proof of your Jersey City residential street address. The following are NOT acceptable as proof of address: leases or junk mail.

Non-resident employers and employees:

Non-resident employers and employees working in Jersey City are eligible to apply for a free JCFPL library card; current payroll stub/or employment ID, together with a photo ID and current residential address information such as the proofs listed above must be presented.

Authorizing Library Card Issuance to Your Child(ren):

Anyone who lives within the Hudson County area is eligible for a JCFPL card. Please provide photo ID and gas/electric or water bill, credit card statement, or computer-generated bill from within the past 30 days as proof of current address. Each applicant must also present a current library card, which is in good standing, from his/her hometown library. JCFPL Staff need to call the hometown library to verify that such card is current and in good standing.

You can check on the status of your child’s account through our web page, www.jclibrary.org by clicking on the catalog link, or by calling the Library that your child uses and giving the staff member the information. Please inform us promptly if you and your child change your phone number or move to a new address, and provide proof of the new address as indicated above. Please fill out a separate form for each child.

Reciprocal Borrowers:

The Priscilla Gardner Main Library will open at 12:00 pm on 05/24/2024 due to a delayed opening.

The Pavonia Branch will open at 12:00 pm on 05/28/2024 due to a delayed opening.

The Five Corners Branch will open at 12:00 pm on 05/30/2024 due to a delayed opening.

The West Bergen Branch will open at 12:00 pm on 06/05/2024 due to a delayed opening.

The Cunningham Branch will open at 12:00 pm on 06/06/2024 due to a delayed opening.

The Morgan Branch will open at 12:00 pm on 06/13/2024 due to a delayed opening.

The Miller Branch will open at 12:00 pm on 06/18/2024 due to a delayed opening.

The Marion Branch will open at 12:00 pm on 06/20/2024 due to a delayed opening.

The Heights Branch will open at 12:00 pm on 06/21/2024 due to a delayed opening.

In observance of Memorial Day, all branches of the library will be closed on Monday, May 27th, 2024. The library will be open for service on Tuesday, May 28th, 2024. Thank you for your understanding.

Our affiliate library's access to FamilySearch is temporarily disconnected due to technical issues. Patrons will have regular access to the database only. We anticipate that it will be restored within a week. We will keep you informed of any updates.

West Bergen Branch Is Temporarily Closed Today 5/23/2024 due to flooding. We Anticipate Reopening on or Before Fri., May 24.
