The Jersey City Free Public Library has been a Congressionally-designated depository for U.S. Government documents since the Library’s inception. As one of the 1,250 depositories in the country, it offers a wealth of information – both historical and current – from the U.S. Government Publishing Office.
As a selective depository, Jersey City Free Public Library selects and receives publications from numerous federal agencies, such as the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Department of Defense, and many others. Our holdings include books, pamphlets, microfiche, CDs, and electronic resources.
The Federal Documents Department is currently closed while the Main Library undergoes extensive renovations. During this time, you may access a wide range of online resources by clicking here, and Federal Documents librarians are available by phone to assist patrons with reference inquiries and questions.
If you have any questions about accessing Federal Documents collections or resources, please contact Sharon Tucker at 201-547-4555. Assistance is also available at New Jersey City University’s Federal Documents Department at 201-200-3518.
Public access to Government information is guaranteed by federal law: Public Printing and Documents, Title 44 U.S.C. §§ 1901-1916 (1968). For general information on the depository collection, please contact the Documents desk at 201-547-4517.
