JERSEY CITY, N.J. Apr. 26, 2017 – Jersey City Free Public Library Director Priscilla Gardner announces the reopening of the Main Library, effective Monday, May 1, 2017.
The Main Library will resume its regular operating schedule: 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. Mondays through Thursdays, and 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. Saturdays, with the following departments open to the public: Lending, New Jersey Room, Bonetti Children’s Room, Biblioteca Criolla, and Literacy. The Reference Department and Federal Documents Department will remain closed as those areas continue to undergo renovations.
On Thurs., May 18, 2017, the Jersey City Free Public Library Foundation will celebrate the progress made on the ongoing renovations, and raise funds to support continued work, at the Black & White Ball Fundraiser and Silent Auction.
And on May 1 at 6 P.M., Biblioteca Criolla at the Main Library will celebrate the reopening of the building with an evening of conversation and music, featuring Tim Lawrence, author of Life and Death on the New York Dance Floor, 1980-1983, and local DJ Wyse Rodriguez of Soulful Cypher. “We thank everyone for their patience as we continue the renovation process,” said Library Director Priscilla Gardner. “The Main Library building is over 100 years old and an architectural treasure. We take our responsibility very seriously as stewards not only of the building, but the collections within it.”
