Children, Unleash Your Inner Hero!
Every Hero Has a Story (Children) & UNMASK! (YA)
are the 2015 Themes for Library’s Summer Reading Program
JERSEY CITY, N.J. May 29, 2015 – It’s time for children to unleash their inner heroes and ‘she-roes’ because Every Hero Has a Story (Children) and UNMASK! (YA) are the Summer Reading Program 2015 (SRP 2015) themes at the Jersey City Free Public Library.
Registration for SRP 2015 starts on Monday, June 1 for SRP 2015 at all branches, including the Bookmobile. The Bonetti Children’s Room at the Main Library will entertain in-person registration when the Main Library reopens from its construction closure on Wednesday, June 3. The Summer Reading Program runs from Monday, June 22 to Friday, August 14.
Themes are established by the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP), which serves all 50 states, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Mariana Islands, Federated Islands of Micronesia, and the Cayman Islands. The CSLP is a consortium that provides high-quality summer reading program materials, including bookmarks and the annual theme imagery, for children at the lowest cost possible for their public libraries. All CSLP materials are free, and offered by the New Jersey State Library to public libraries.
“We’ve planned something special for our children this year, in working with the hero theme, about finding our local heroes,” said Assistant Library Director Sonia Araujo, who oversees the Summer Reading Program this year. During SRP 2014, 1,202 children participated in all programs, with 572 of them reading a total of 13,017 books.
“The summer reading program is more than just reading. It’s socializing and leadership combined – the perfect mixture for developing budding heroes,” added Librarian Francina Stevens, who heads the Bonetti Children Room and co-chairs SRP 2015 with Heights Branch manager Liz Cartaina.
