Bookmobile Expected to be Off-Road All Week

JERSEY CITY, N.J.   March 21, 2016 – The Jersey City Free Public Library announced this week that the Bookmobile is now off the road, starting today, Monday, March 21, and will remain off-road the remainder of the week, due to repairs to the generator.

Library patrons can bring back any materials to all nine branches. Anyone who had borrowed library materials from the Bookmobile, including when it was parked in front of the Main Library (due to its closure for renovations), will need to go to a local branch library.

If you need to wait for the Bookmobile, you will not incur any fines during the time the Bookmobile is off the road.

JERSEY CITY, N.J.   Dec. 18, 2015 – The Marion Branch, 1017 West Side Avenue, of the Jersey City Free Public Library has closed late Friday afternoon on Dec. 18, for lack of water. Consequently, the restroom facilities are not available to the public. The branch would have stayed open until 5 p.m.

A clogged toilet seems to be the culprit, and plumbing repair will be contacted.

JERSEY CITY, N.J.   Sept. 28, 2015 – To accommodate the public’s need to access library materials, the Jersey City Free Public Library will institute extended library hours for the five-week period the Main Library is closed for terrazzo flooring installation and restoration of existing tiling.

Each Regional branch library will add a late night (staying open until 8 p.m.), totaling two late nights per week. Each late night starts its day at 9 a.m., instead of its original opening time of noon.

An avowed and self-described “science evangelist” whose life goal for children and young adults is to “Make. Science. Fun.” has donated $3,000 to the Marion Branch, 1017 West Side Avenue, of the Jersey City Free Public Library.

World renowned materials research scientist and Jersey City-native Ainissa G. Ramirez, Ph.D. recently received the Andrew Gemant Award from the American Institute of Physics (AIP), from which she personally received $5,000 and $3,000 to further public communication of physics to her designated institution of choice. Dr. Ramirez named as grant recipient the Marion Branch Library, where she spent many hours reading and learning as a child.

“Dr. Ramirez has distinguished herself in her chosen field of science. We are so proud of her, and happy that she has chosen her childhood reading hideaway – the Marion Branch Library – as the designated non-profit organization of her award,” said Library Director Priscilla Gardner.

The recent West Bergen Branch Library renovation, though much-needed, was on a much-smaller scale than the major renovation that the Main Library has been currently undergoing, for disabled accessibility and overall interior improvement on all four floors. A storefront library, Marion Branch also is in need of an upgrade.
