Putting Community First

The Library is still here to help!

At the Jersey City Free Public Library we care deeply about our community and want to be here in this unprecedented time of need. In response to the ever-changing Coronavirus situation we have closed our physical facilities but we are still working and providing services to our community through expanded virtual services and digital resources.

During this time all fines and fees have been waived. If you have books checked out the due dates have been extended to June 1.

You can still find us open at jclibrary.org. Please keep an eye out as we continue to add new resources and services to our website. In particular, check out our new digital services page at: https://www.jclibrary.org/digital-services We are adding new resources and services daily!

Below is a summary of some of the things we are already doing:

We are continuing to work on our COVID-19 Information page so that we can provide patrons with the latest and most relevant information about the outbreak and local resources they can call on.

Our children's librarians are hosting Video Story Hours on Facebook Live. The community is going wild for this program and we can only expect it to grow in the coming days as the word continues to spread. We are helping parents and caregivers entertain and educate their children even while we are physically separated.

Our dedicated librarians are now offering a new Virtual Reference Service from 6am to midnight, 7 days a week. We are providing a place where the community can go and get help answering all kinds of questions - just like we do when our doors are open.

We are making it possible for our residents to get a Library Card online so that they can take advantage of the services we are offering without having to wait until we reopen.

We have also launched a new suite of Homework Help resources to help students, including Tutor.com.

We are also compiling lists of Virtual Field Trips and other cultural events that you can participate in right from home.

We are expanding our acquisitions budget for new digital collections, databases and online courses to meet the increased demand that we are expecting for digital content.

We are updating our Dial-a-Story offerings and we will be re-promoting that service shortly.

Please take care of yourselves and your family. If you need our assistance please remember we are still here!
