February at the Library with Jersey City Mayor Frank “I am the law” Hague

JERSEY CITY, N.J.   January 29, 2013 – Frank Hague – the allure of Jersey City’s most-written about mayor never dims.

The month of February brings two programs at the Jersey City Free Public Library that shine spotlights on both sides of the Hague enigma: Was he just a political tyrant, or did Mayor Hague do some good?

On Saturday, February 16 at 1 p.m., the Main Library’s New Jersey Room (472 Jersey Avenue, 3rd Floor) presents author Leonard F. Vernon, whose book, The Life & Times of Jersey City Mayor Frank Hague, explores the second question. With an introduction that defines the historical context for Hague’s well-known identifier, “I am the law,” this book provides FBI-researched vignettes that point to a mayor caring for “[t]he areas of juvenile justice and the education of children with special needs. (p. 68)”

CAS Produces Studio 676 Programs

JERSEY CITY, N.J.   January 8, 2013 – Today, The Jersey Journal released an article on NJ.com and in its print newspaper, entitled, “Jersey City music teacher , 61, charged with raping 8-year-old pupil,” and attributed Studio 676-held violin lessons and recitals to the programming from the Miller Branch Library.

The Community Awareness Series (CAS) produced the program series from Studio 676, featuring the violin lessons and recitals from Henry Granderson – a very important distinction, since no staff members from the Miller Branch Library produced those programs, nor is Mr. Granderson an employee of the Jersey City Free Public Library. Through his association with CAS, he is a vendor.
