Heart failure is a serious condition, but it does not mean that the heart has stopped. * Around 5.8 million people in the United States have heart failure. About 670,000 people are diagnosed with it each year. * The most common causes of heart failure are coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes. / Wednesday, October 10 @ 1 p.m. / Seating is limited. David Goodwin discusses the history of the artists’ space at the former Lorillard Warehouse, based on his research, including extensive interviews with those who were there. / Saturday, October 13 @ 2 p.m.

Woolsey was a featured author at A Tale of Our City 2012, Jersey City’s book festival held on Saturday, September 22. / Mr. Woolsey is a semi-retired Trusts and Estates attorney in New York and New Jersey. He was a Fulbright student, a graduate of the University of Virginia Law School, served as a Briefing Officer for Army Intelligence at the Pentagon for two years during the Vietnam War, and  self-published an autobiography, No Fighting in the War Room, based on that experience. Robert currently lives in Northern New Jersey, and his interests include travel, foreign languages, cooking and word games. / Monday, October 1 @ 6 pm.

In the 1850s, the Erie Railroad dug a tunnel near the current site of Dickinson High School. The Irish tunnel diggers lived on the hill n a shantytown… The jug, the fiddle and hilltop fires exhilarated them. Old beliefs sprang up, and the bishop of Newark became alarmed. This well-told story is enhanced by Irish music and illustrations by Hugh Harrison. Have Fun with Digital Library!

The Jersey City Free Public Library offers the digital service, Digital Library – a collection of audio books, eBooks, music and video to download. Valid library cardholders who download the necessary software can check out and download digital titles anytime, anywhere by visiting http://jclibrary.org/digitallibrary.php. The great thing? At the end of the 10-day lending period, the digital titles automatically expire, which means, no one ever accumulates late fees or has to worry about returning damaged items.

Log onto Jersey City Library website, www.jclibrary.org, CLICK on “Health Info” to access the American Cancer Society’s website. Library staff at the designated libraries have been training to navigate the Society’s website, for the benefit of the community. This staff training will help library patrons in two ways: Help them find the information they want from the American Cancer Society website, or have Library staff get the information needed for them.
