Tales of Our Cities, the Jersey City Free Public Library’s 9th Annual Book Festival, is one of the most anticipated events of the end of summer in Jersey City, featuring local authors, kids’ activities, and food trucks. This year we were fortunate to have with us two prominent Jersey City writers: activist and commentator Haroon Moghul, author of the new memoir How to Be a Muslim, and musician and actor Val Emmich, whose debut novel The Reminders is making a huge splash. Festival-goers were treated to readings and signings by more than a dozen local authors with new work, plus fun children’s activities like henna, face painting, storytime, and more. Great food was also on hand from food trucks Muttley Royale and Cubano X-Press, the Milk Sugar Love ice cream cart, and healthy cooking demonstrations for kids from Bambino Chef.
