Each
year, the Miller Branch Library celebration of Women’s History
Month chooses women from the community who are selected for their forbearance,
their accomplishments, and their ability to touch the hearts of those
whom they come in contact. This year’s group of women possessed
the grace and grit associated with previously chosen honorees, demonstrating
the phenomenal women that they truly are.
The 2007
Women’s History Month Awardees from the Miller Branch Library
are: The Honorable Judge Cynthia Jackson, Municipal Court of Jersey
City; Dr. Tyeese Gaines Reid, medical doctor and writer; Elizabeth Williams,
hotel industry administrator; and The Reverend Paula Rodriguez of CityLine
Church, Jersey City.
The program
began with an opening prayer by Almarie Taylor, followed by Miller Branch
Manager Reneé Moody welcoming everyone. Jersey City Police Officer
Kora Kerton, a 2006 honoree, served as MC, with entertainment by Donna
James’ poetry reading and solo performances by inspirational singer
Chanel Reeves.
The evening
ended with something special – a wonderful live stage play –
with a performance by Winn Productions: The Life of Ella Fitzgerald.
Featured performers were: Kim Parker, Matthew Fudge, Darryl William,
Paul Chung, Erika Grant, Gabriella Upshaw, Mr. James Robinson, Aaron
Heard, Dean Cook, Beverly Fudge, Devin Parker, and Donalia Jones; with
